See It: Moth or butterfly? Large or small? Generally it’s easy to distinguish a moth from a butterfly, regardless of size. Butterflies usually have thin antennae with clubbed ends, while moths’ antennae are feathery. Some 18,500 species of butterflies are distributed throughout the world, except Antarctica. I captured this busy wanderer along a very humid forested trail in the White Rock Mountain Recreation Area, part of the Ozark National Forest, Arkansas, USA. Shoot It: This shot was using a Canon 7D (crop factor 1.6), Canon EF24-70mm f/2.8 at 42mm and f/5.6, 1/160 sec, and ISO800, handheld, on July 1, 2017 at 12:11 PM. Basic adjustments were made in Photoshop Lightroom.
Improve It: What does an aperture of f/5.6 do for this image? Do you see ‘hard’ or ‘soft’ light? What problems are you having with your photographs? Let me know at Inquiries@GibsonOutdoorPhoto.com and I will share some tips to overcome these issues in a future blog post.
