See It: Less than 30 minutes from central Tucson, Arizona, USA, you can be seriously deep in the desert. Seriously deep, as in many, many cactus thorns stuck in your shoes, hands, rear-end, or anyplace else you are not careful to look after. But by now you know the story: it’s well worth it. Tucson Mountain Park is amazing and convenient, being so close to this good-sized city. I’ve seen and photographed many varieties of cactus over the years, and I was introduced to several new species on this trip, including hundreds of the famous, tall, and long-lived saguaro (səˈ(g)wärō) cactus. There are several pullouts along the highway where you can park and walk on- or off-trail. But do be careful while enjoying this spectacular desert wonderland. Remain aware of your surroundings, especially the apt-named ‘jumping’ cholla cactus thorny segments on the ground, ready to hitch a ride on your shoes. More about Tucson Mountain Park, saguaro cactus, cholla cactus.
Shoot It: This shot was using a Canon 7D (crop factor 1.6), Canon EF24-70mm f/2.8 at 40mm and f/9, 1/80 sec, and ISO1000, handheld, on Aug 8, 2017 at 7:16 PM. Basic adjustments were made and dust and distractions were removed in Photoshop Lightroom.
Improve It: Why did I use ISO1000 on this shot? What challenge did I create with that decision? What problems are you having with your photographs? Let me know at Inquiries@GibsonOutdoorPhoto.com and I will share some tips to overcome these issues in a future blog post.
