See It: Approximately 70 species of haircap mosses cover nearly every part of the globe. Scientific name, Polytrichum, comes from the ancient Greek polys, meaning “many”, and thrix, meaning “hair”. These tiny samples were along a very humid forested trail in the White Rock Mountain Recreation Area, part of the Ozark National Forest, Arkansas, USA. Shoot It: This shot was using a Canon 7D (crop factor 1.6), Canon EF24-70mm f/2.8 at 62mm and f/4, 1/125 sec, and ISO1000, handheld, on July 1, 2017 at 10:38 AM. Basic adjustments were made in Photoshop Lightroom.
